Tips for getting to Hillhouse

Arriving By Train

We are a 25 minute walk from the station ( they are one side of the central zone and we are the other) As our name suggests, we are on a hill and if your bags are heavy we would recommend you get a taxi.

If you are coming by train and are to get a taxi, please note that as we have only recently opened and some drivers do not know us. If you could let them know that we are the former Belvedere Wine vaults on the corner of Morford Street and Lansdown Road they will easily find us.

Arriving By Bus

The coach station is on the same road as Bath Spa Railway station.
You can get a local bus from Manvers Street the road in front of the railways station. The bus stop is located at the back of Debenhams. You can get a number 2 or a number 6 bus. It costs £2.20 single per person. You need to ask for the first stop after Alfred Street. This will drop you outside number 18 Belvedere on Lansdown Road. We are No25 Belvedere just further up.

Arriving by Car

Please set your SATNAV to Morford Street BA1 5ED

Most people who visit Bath come from the North via Junction 18 on the M4 along the A46. To avoid the traffic we advise that at the Roundabout directly after the village of Pennsylvania, you take the third exit ( A420 to Bristol) and then the first exit left following the signs to Lansdown Racecourse.

2 miles or so after Lansdown RaceCourse, travelling downhill into Bath you will come to a T junction by St Stephens Church. Turn Right and continue downhill.

Morford Street, where are side entrance is located is the second turning on the right. Please pull up outside our side entrance – two grey double doors on the left hand side at the top of the street as you go down.

We have an on street parking permit for each of our rooms. This allows you to park in any residents parking bay in the central zone of Bath. There is no dedicated parking area.

You are allowed to use the permit from the time of check in when you check out. If the permit is not returned we will charge you £100.00 which is the cost of replacement.

Parking

We have on street parking permits for each of our rooms which must be registered in advance This allows you to park in any of the resident on street parking bays in Central Bath. We do not have any dedicated parking spaces.

Below we have set out details of how to find us is you are driving and where to park.

When using a SATNAV please note that our address is the name of the terrace Not the Road. We are located on the corner of Lansdown Road and Morford Street ( opposite the former Ye Olde Farmhouse Pub) and we suggest you put to in the name of either Road in to your SATNAV and the postcode BA1 5ED .

If you pull up outside our side entrance at the top of Morford Street we will be able to unload your luggage, be issued with your permit and directed to where you may be able to find a parking space.

Parking is at a premium at weekends and in the evening. We will always assist you in locating as space as much as possible.

Please note, if you are arriving after 18.00 hours you are able to park on single yellow lines until 08.00 the following day and all day on Sundays and Bank Holidays. These can be found in both Morford Street and Lansdown Road.

We have attached a map of the central zone parking area for your information.

Travel from Heathrow and London to Bath

To get to Bath Spa from London and/or Heathrow you have several options

By Train from London Paddington Station

For train timetables go to www.nationalrail.co.uk.
The trains operate a normal (peak), saver and super saving pricing regime. It is advised that for the best price you should not travel at rush hour (before 9.30am and between 4pm to 7pm). However the trains do get very crowded and we strongly advise booking your ticket and a dedicated seat in advance.
Whilst you can book your ticket through the site above there are also two discounted site you may wish to try and they can offer better deals. These are:-
www.redspottedhanky.com
www.thetrainline.com
The Heathrow Express goes straight into Paddington Station and takes about 25 minutes. During the day the trains depart every 30 minutes to Bath Spa. The journey time is 90 minutes.

By Bus

You can get a National Express Coach either from Victoria Coach Station or from London Heathrow. The travel time can vary according to the time of day ( level of traffic) but can be between 2.5 hours and 4.5 hours.

For more information go to www.nationalexpress.com

By Private Car Hire

Do NOT take a Black cab or minibus and it is very expensive ( a journey into central London form Heathrow will cost you in excess of £50.00
If you do want to be picked up we recommend www.bathprivatecarehire.com , who are happy to meet you at the terminal and also arrange a sightseeing tour on your way to Bath or during your stay.

By Train and Bus

The cost of a taxi will be about £50.00 and the journey will lake about 45 minutes, depending on the time of day and traffic.

From the experience of other guests we believe that there are not many taxis waiting at Bristol Airport late at night and you are better to try to book one in advance if this is the case. Also you are best to agree a fixed with with the driver in advance if possible rather that it be charged on the metre.
